EOT Crane – Configuration, Features, Applications

Cranes are an absolute necessity for heavy-duty applications. From construction landscapes to automotive and shipbuilding industries, cranes are employed to lift heavy materials and objects that cannot be handled by human force. Cranes make the processes smoother and boost the productivity of the task at hand at the site.

Different types of cranes serve different purposes in different industries. Cranes are uniquely designed to suit the requirements of specific sites and industries. In this blog, we are going to discuss a very popular type of crane called the EOT crane.

What is EOT crane?

EOT crane is an abbreviation for Electric Overhead Travelling Crane. As the name suggests, EOT crane is electrically powered and operated through a radio/IR remote pendant, control pendant, or an attached operator cabin. It is commonly used for shifting and lifting heavy loads. EOT crane is functionally efficient for handling both light and heavy loads.

EOT crane is also referred to as a bridge crane as it consists of a parallel runway that is connected with a moving bridge. In the EOT crane, the hoist is mounted on the moving bridge.

Mainly, there are two types of EOT cranes – singer girder EOT crane and double girder EOT crane.

EOT crane has three primary functional movements –

• Hook up and hook down lifting
• Lateral trolley movement
• Long travelling longitudinal motion

Features of EOT Crane

Some of the unique features of EOT crane are –

• All the motors in the EOT crane are electric TEFC motors (with F class insulation)
• Cast-steel rope guide suitable for heavy-duty applications
• An upper hook and lower hook travel limit switch
• Welded steel crane girder
• Corrosion-resistant crane body
• Low maintenance, easy operations

Applications of EOT crane

Electric overhead crane is very popular for heavy-duty use and has vast applications in a myriad of industries. Some of the common applications of EOT crane are –

• Construction industry
• Steel plant
• Transport industry
• Petrochemical plant
• Power plant
• Chemical industry
• Dairy industry
• Cement industry
• Foundries

EOT Crane Configurations

Under running configuration

In the under running crane structure, the working cranes are supported by the roof. The cranes work on the bottom flange of the girder framework. The best part about the under running crane configuration is a small trolley utilizes the maximum building height and width, optimizing the process. Moreover, the ceiling girder protects the crane track.

Top running configuration

In this configuration, the horizontal girder is the main support beam that supports the other smaller beams. It has a fixed track installed on the topmost part of the runway beam. This configuration does not have a limiting capacity and can handle both huge and small loads.
